Choose where to keep your photos and videos

Make your photos and videos available on all of your devices with iCloud Photos. Or store them locally only on your Mac or PC.

• If I drag a photo into my offline Google Drive 'Google Photos' folder on my Mac, it automatically uploads to sync with my Google Drive 'Google Photos' folder in the cloud, and it shows up in Google Photos online. Sync on any platform even the phones wont sync downloads they just show up in the viewer and you have to select them to download.
• Import photos from a camera or phone using Photos on Mac. You can connect a camera, iPhone, iPad, or other mobile device to your Mac and import your photos into the Photos app. You can also import photos from a camera’s memory card. Alternatively, if you’d like to automatically back up photos from any folder on your computer, you’ll need to download Google’s ‘Backup & Sync’ desktop application, which works with both. Download and install Android File Transfer on your computer. Open Android File Transfer. The next time that you connect your phone, it opens automatically. Unlock your phone. With a USB cable, connect your phone to your computer. On your phone, tap the 'Charging this device via USB' notification. Under 'Use USB for,' select File Transfer.

iCloud Photos

iCloud Photos keeps your photos and videos safe, up to date and available automatically on all of your Apple devices, on iCloud.com and even on your PC. iCloud Photos always uploads and stores your original, full-resolution photos. You can keep full-resolution originals on each of your devices, or save space with device-optimised versions instead. Either way, you can download your originals whenever you need them. Any organisational changes or edits you make are always kept up to date across all of your devices.

The photos and videos that you keep in iCloud Photos use your iCloud storage. Before you turn on iCloud Photos, make sure you have enough space in iCloud to store your entire collection. You can see how much space you need and then upgrade your storage plan if necessary.

Import to your Mac

You can use the Photos app to import photos from your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to your Mac.

1. Connect your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to your Mac with a USB cable.
2. Open the Photos app.
3. The Photos app shows an Import screen with all of the photos and videos that are on your connected device. If the Import screen doesn't appear automatically, click the device's name in the Photos sidebar.
4. If asked, unlock your iOS device using your passcode. If you see a prompt on your iOS device asking you to Trust This Computer, tap Trust to continue.
5. Either select the photos you want to import and click Import Selected, or click Import All New Photos.
   
6. Wait for the process to finish, then disconnect your device from your Mac.

Import to your PC

You can import photos to your PC by connecting your device to your computer and using the Windows Photos app:

1. Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes on your PC. Importing photos to your PC requires iTunes 12.5.1 or later.
2. Connect your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to your PC with a USB cable.
3. If asked, unlock your iOS device using your passcode.
4. If you see a prompt on your iOS device asking you to Trust This Computer, tap Trust or Allow to continue.

Mac Auto Download Pictures To Google Phones Android

If you have iCloud Photos turned on, you'll need to download the original, full-resolution versions of your photos to your iPhone before you import to your PC. Find out how.

• Import photos and video from storage media, such as a hard disk or SD card, to Photos for macOS.
• Use a scanner and Image Capture to import photos that were taken with a film camera.

If you plug an Android phone into your computer the Photos app will open like it does with an iPhone, but it may not see the photos on your Android Phone. This happened to me on my Nexus 5X phone and I needed to give the phone permission to share the photos with my computer. It’s the same for any Android phone.

After you plug the Android phone into your Mac, swipe down notifications and there will be a notification telling you that your phone is charging from the computer. Click this notification.

Now select ‘Transfer Photos (PTP)’ to allow your OS X Photos app to upload the photos from your phone.
